SAN JOSE, CA—Bixby Land Co. has broken ground on a 250,000-sq.-ft. office renovation project called THE Campus. Construction on the four-building project, located on Trimble Road in San Jose, Calif., should complete by the end of 2013.
“THE Campus takes the concept of modern work spaces to a whole new level,” said Bill Halford, president and CEO of Bixby Land Co., in a statement. “We have designed this project with a distinctive environment that incorporates collaborative interior spaces with abundant outdoor amenities.”
One of the main design elements of THE Campus is to seamlessly meld the building interiors with the surrounding outside areas. Full-height windows, overhead doors that will reveal interior work space and outdoor communal areas for meetings, dining and recreation are all part of the design.
“We think that given the choice, people would much rather be able to work outdoors and have immediate access to a pleasing outdoor environment,” Halford said. “The California climate lends itself to a year-round outdoor lifestyle, and we want to give companies the opportunity for their employees to work where they are inspired and more productive.”
Outdoor perks will include, seating areas, fire pits, a gourmet kitchen, eco-friendly landscaping, a bocce ball court, an exercise deck, and yoga space.
Currently, only one of the four buildings is occupied, leaving 235,000 sq. ft. of space available to a single company or multiple tenants. The interior renovations are now underway. The four buildings will receive upgraded exteriors, roofs, mechanical systems, lobbies and restrooms. “THE Campus offers far and away the latest in office campus design and amenities,” said Rob Shannon, senior vice president at CBRE. “This concept works especially well in Silicon Valley, where there are numerous firms that appreciate high quality office environments.”
